How To Plant Water Lily?

Are you a nature lover and want to decorate your pond with colorful flowers? Planting water lilies is an excellent option for making your surroundings more pleasant. The appropriate time to grow pond nymphs is from April to September. Water lilies, which come in different colours and sizes, will enhance the quiet beauty of a pond or lake.

Apart from their beauty, Nymphaea also help maintain the aquatic ecosystem. They provide shelter for fish from predatory birds and the sun’s heat. Let us explain how to plant a water lily.

       Select An Appropriate Pot-

Make sure to choose a pot or container that is as large as possible. A plant in a pot that is too small will develop slowly and produce fewer leaves and flowers. Due to enough space in a large pot, the roots of the water lily can grow vigorously and absorb nutrients. Nymphaea are well suited for planting in lakes or ponds and are available in various sizes and colors.

       Choose Right Soil-

This is one of the essential steps in planting water lilies. The greatest option is to choose heavy soil. Some people decide to use pea gravel for their Nymphaea pots. The lily will be able to root well this way, but it is not a good idea because fertilizer will seep into the pond water and could lead to an algal bloom.

       Fertilization-

As water nymphs consume a lot of nutrients, enrichment is necessary as soon as the first few leaves appear on the water's surface. Aquatic plant fertilizers come in a variety of forms. It is graded using a three-digit method, which is 20-20-20. Typically, the label prominently displays this number.

These three figures represent the proportions of potassium, phosphorus, and nitrogen. Choose an aquatic plant fertilizer with a higher middle number, such as phosphorus, regardless of the type you select.

 Instructions:

Fill the one-third bottom of the pot with aquatic soil and pack it tightly.

Gently plant the water lily roots in the pot's bottom. Place the Nymphaea tuber at one of the pot's edges so that the developing tip points upward at a 45-degree angle toward the pot's center. The lily will be able to grow inside the container. The water lily's growing tip and the pot's upper soil level should be roughly equal.

Add some fertilizer to promote lots of bloom and healthy growth.

Fill the remainder of the pot with pea gravel, which helps prevent fish from digging into the soil.

Finally, the pot is put into the pond by slowly sinking into the water until the level is even at the top of the pot. It shall also receive six to eight hours of sunlight daily.

Wrapping Up:

Growing water lilies like an expert is easy, and the results are very satisfying. Nymphaea is a gem in aquatic gardening because of its beautiful blooms and the peaceful ambiance it creates in a pond or lake. By following the above steps, you will learn how to plant water lilies, which will make your water garden serene and colorful.
